The Iron Hills go to War

With the new Iron Hills Dwarves having gone up for pre-order this past weekend, the Forge World office has resounded to the clamour of iron-shod boots marching to war.

Jay Clare, the Middle-earth? team?s Writer, has already amassed and painted an impressive start to his Iron Hills Dwarves collection, complete with Ballista and Dain Ironfoot to lead them into battle. Here?s how he painted them:

Jay started by spraying his Dwarves with Leadbelcher, before giving them a generous wash with Nuln Oil Gloss, and then drybrushing them with Ironbreaker.

The red shields the Dwarves carry were painted with a basecoat of Khorne Red before being highlighted along their edges with Tuskgor Fur. Jay then applied a wash of a 50:50 mix of Carroburg Crimson and Lahmian Medium over the red areas to tie the colours together.

For Dain?s infamous ginger hair, Jay started by painting it with Jokaero Orange, followed by a wash of Agrax Earthshade. To brighten up Dain?s hair following the wash, Jay drybrushed it with another layer of Jokaero Orange and then a final drybrush of Troll Slayer Orange. The very tips of Dain?s styled moustache were painted Ushabti Bone to match the tusked appearance of the Lord of the Iron Hills in the movie.

Jay has ensured us that this is by no means the end to his Iron Hills collection, and that in the future he?ll be adding in at least another 12 Iron Hills Warriors ? and maybe even some other surprises too!
